Lower caps from Tuesday
According to a notice published by the energy minister, as reported by RMF24, maximum fuel prices will fall from Tuesday. Petrol 95 is to cost no more than 6.79 zloty per litre, petrol 98 no more than 7.56 zloty, and diesel no more than 7.97 zloty.
Comparison with the previous notice
The earlier notice, which applied from Saturday until Monday, set the ceilings higher. Under it, petrol 95 could cost up to 6.89 zloty per litre, petrol 98 up to 7.68 zloty and diesel up to 8.00 zloty.
Current prices compared
- Petrol 95: 6.89 zloty (previous cap) versus 6.79 zloty (new cap)
- Petrol 98: 7.68 zloty versus 7.56 zloty
- Diesel: 8.00 zloty versus 7.97 zloty
Part of a third package
The notice forms part of the third stage of the Cheaper Fuel Prices (CPN) package, which aims to limit price increases at petrol stations and reduce fuelling costs for drivers, RMF24 reports. The mechanism was launched after parts of the windfall tax law on fuel companies took effect. The president signed that law but also referred it to the Constitutional Tribunal for subsequent review.
Penalties and duration
Stations that do not observe the maximum prices may face fines of up to 1 million zloty, according to the same report. The government expects the full support package to remain in force until the end of this year.
