New head for Polsat's news division

  • Marcin Wójcicki, previously deputy director, replaces Piotr Witwicki as director of Telewizja Polsat's Information and Publicistics Division.
  • Witwicki will oversee Interia, Polsatnews.pl and related YouTube channels within Grupa Polsat Plus.
  • Polsat cites growing competition and the approaching election year as reasons for the change.

Telewizja Polsat has announced that Marcin Wójcicki will become director of its Information and Publicistics Division, replacing Piotr Witwicki, who has held the post until now (Zmiana w Telewizji Polsat. Nowy dyrektor Informacji i Publicystyki – PolsatNews.pl) (Zmiany w Pionie Informacji i Publicystyki Telewizji Polsat. Marcin Wójcicki nowym dyrektorem - omediach.info – omediach.info). Wójcicki had been Witwicki's deputy in the division (Piotr Witwicki zmienia rolę w Polsacie. Będzie rozwijał portale – satkurier.pl).

Witwicki moves to online operations

Witwicki will concentrate on Interia and Polsatnews.pl, along with the internet portals of Grupa Polsat Plus (Witwicki odchodzi ze stanowiska. Zostaje jednak w Polsacie – rozrywka.dorzeczy.pl). He confirmed the change to Wirtualnemedia.pl and said he will oversee Interia, polsatnews.pl and their YouTube channels. He will also continue as one of the hosts of "Gość Wydarzeń".

Reasons given by the broadcaster

The company says the reshuffle responds to growing competition in the news market and the coming election year, which it says requires a stronger presence for its news and current affairs programmes online. Polsat states that it wants to increase the reach of its journalism both through better television ratings and a much larger presence on internet platforms.

Channels and redactions affected

The stated aim is to strengthen Polsat News, Wydarzenia 24 and Polsat News Polityka, as well as the further development of Interia. The broadcaster says it wants to give both editorial teams the best conditions to grow their audiences and improve their results.

Wójcicki's background

Wójcicki has been with Telewizja Polsat for almost 20 years and has worked in the information and publicistics area throughout that time.
