Polish A2 motorway to stop short of Belarus border after 6.8 km section dropped
Road authority GDDKiA has dropped the final 6.8 km of the A2 motorway in eastern Poland, which was meant to reach the Belarus border. The route will now end at the Koroszczyn freight terminal, with any further work dependent on the geopolitical situation.

Final section scrapped
- GDDKiA has cancelled construction of the final 6.8 km of the A2 motorway, which was to reach the Belarus border.
- The motorway will end at the Koroszczyn terminal, with any extension depending on the geopolitical situation.
- The decision was reportedly taken four years ago, and 588.3 km of the route is already open.
The General Directorate of National and Motorways (GDDKiA) has halted construction of the last 6.8 km of the A2 motorway, the stretch that would have run directly to the border with Belarus (Skrócą autostradę na wschodzie Polski. Wymazali znaczący odcinek – wnp.pl) (Ostatni odcinek autostrady A2 nie powstanie. GDDKiA zdradziła powód – Interia Motoryzacja). The motorway network already covers 588.3 km of the route, so drivers can use most of the corridor, but the planned extension to the frontier will not be built.
Terminal as the new endpoint
For now, the A2 will terminate at the freight and passenger terminal in Koroszczyn, which is the immediate priority. Officials have tied any future work beyond that point to changes in the geopolitical situation. According to reporting, the decision to drop the section was taken four years ago.
Context for eastern Poland
The A2 is a key east-west route, and the Koroszczyn terminal is one of the main crossing points on the Belarus border. Stopping the road short of the frontier means heavy traffic will continue to rely on existing national roads for the final stretch.
Related works on the A2
Separately, the A2 between Siedlce and Biała Podlaska has new service areas at Kolonia Sitnik and Ługi Wielkie. These facilities are open but need expansion, and GDDKiA is running tenders for their development (Kiedy zatankujemy na A2 od Siedlec do Białej Podlaskiej? – Słowo Podlasia).
