Tauron Group has acquired a ready-to-build battery energy storage project called BME Jawor, with a capacity of 28.27 MW and 120 MWh (Tauron stawia na magazynowanie energii. The facility will be built from 40 containers and will be acquired as a special-purpose company that carries the project.

The installation will sit in the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone INVEST-PARK in Jawor and will connect to the Tauron Dystrybucja grid through the 110/20 kV Jawor Strefa substation (Tauron inwestuje na Dolnym Śląsku. „Magazynowanie energii to kluczowa technologia dla transformacji energetycznej” | Dziennik Zachodni – dziennikzachodni.pl).

Timeline

The company says it plans to start the facility in February 2027. Earlier reports put the start-up at the beginning of next year.

Strategy

Michał Orłowski, Tauron's deputy chief executive for asset management and development, said storage is a key technology for the energy transition because it helps balance the system and reduces the need to curtail renewable sources. He said the group has already passed 600 MW of storage with a final investment decision, with facilities to be commissioned between 2026 and 2029, and that it develops most of its storage portfolio from its own resources while staying open to buying well-prepared projects.
