Four cases recorded so far in 2026
According to RMF24, four rabies cases have been confirmed in Lublin Province this year: two in Biała Podlaska County and two in Tomaszów County. Three of them involved wild foxes, while the fourth was a cat that bit its owner after returning home (Nie dotykaj tych kostek. Na Lubelszczyźnie ruszają dodatkowe szczepienia lisów – RMF24).
Comparison with earlier years
RMF24 reports that eight cases were detected last year, and 36 two years ago. Against those figures, the four cases so far this year are a lower count, though the campaign is still being carried out in the same area.
- 2024: 36 cases
- 2025: 8 cases
- 2026 (to date): 4 cases
What the campaign involves
The provincial chief veterinary officer in Lublin, Monika Michałowska, said 8,400 vaccine baits will be distributed. Each bait is a blister pack with liquid vaccine placed inside a bait with a strong smell. Inspectors will lay the baits by hand along the designated strip of the area.
Safety advice for residents
Inspection staff have warned people not to touch the vaccine baits. If skin comes into contact with the contents, the advice is to wash the area immediately with soap and water and consult a doctor. Residents are asked to keep pets away from the laid baits.
