In brief
- Missile strikes reportedly hit the Proton-Elektrotex plant in Oryol overnight on November 6–7, causing a fire.
- Russian authorities confirmed damage to production buildings without naming the enterprise.
- Russian channels suggest FP-5 Flamingo missiles were used, but this is not officially confirmed.
- The same night, Russia reported 411 drones downed and a Saratov refinery fire.
Attack on Oryol
Russian Oryol Oblast governor Andrey Klychkov confirmed an attack on an enterprise in the Sovetsky district of Oryol, saying production premises were partly damaged when Russian air defenses repelled what he called a massive missile attack. He did not name the plant Emergency services were working at the site.
Local monitoring channels and the Ukrainian outlet Exilenova+ identified the target as the Proton-Elektrotex plant, which is said to be ablaze Astra, analysing footage from witnesses, also reported a fire at the facility.
What the plant makes
The enterprise produces semiconductor devices, LEDs and electronic components for industry and special equipment. Ukrainian sources say its output goes into Russian weapons production, including Iskander-M missiles and Pantsir-S1 air defense systems.
Weapon type unconfirmed
Russian monitoring channels suggested the missiles were FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles Denys Shtilierman, co-founder of FirePoint, did not directly confirm this, though he reposted a message on X about the strike. No official confirmation of the weapon type or of Ukrainian responsibility has been issued.
Same night, wider strikes
The attacks came as Russia reported air defenses downing 411 Ukrainian drones overnight across a dozen regions and occupied Crimea. In Saratov, a fire was reported at a refinery owned by Rosneft; Governor Roman Busargin said civilian infrastructure was damaged Astra said the refinery was the target.
Earlier attack on the plant
The Oryol plant had been hit before. A strike on October 23 caused a large fire, killing five people and injuring 19, according to Meduza.
