Nawrocki after meeting Lithuanian president: Russia is the biggest threat to the region
Polish President Karol Nawrocki said Russia's aggressive policy remains the greatest threat to security in the region, during talks with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda in Warsaw. The two leaders stressed strengthening NATO's eastern flank.
Joint stance on security
President Karol Nawrocki received his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw on 20 October (Rozmowa prezydentów Polski i Litwy. „Historyczne lekcje nabierają nowego znaczenia” – RMF24) (Karol Nawrocki po spotkaniu z prezydentem Litwy: Rosja największym zagrożeniem dla regionu – Onet). At a joint press conference, Nawrocki said Poland and Lithuania share economic interests, a strategic partnership and responsibility for the security of the eastern flank of NATO.
Russia named as main threat
Nawrocki said both countries see the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation as the largest danger to the security of the region. He said the shared priority must be strengthening the eastern flank of the alliance.
Hybrid pressure
According to Nawrocki, Moscow is carrying out hybrid operations against countries in the region, including cyberattacks, disinformation, sabotage and pressure on borders. Poland and Lithuania share this experience, he said, and the answer must be close allied cooperation and steady efforts to make both states more resilient.
Historical lessons
Nawrocki also said the shared historical experience of the two nations takes on new meaning in the present situation and calls for joint reflection. The remarks were part of a wider discussion on bilateral relations and regional security.
