HPV vaccination may become mandatory in Poland, but the Health Ministry has not set a start date
Poland's Health Ministry is considering making HPV vaccination compulsory, but no start date has been confirmed and the draft regulation is still under public consultation. Separately, free HPV vaccines for young adults are being distributed in a final batch of doses.

In brief
- Poland's Health Ministry has not set a start date for making HPV vaccination mandatory; the draft regulation is still in public consultation.
- Free Cervarix doses for people aged 19 to 26 were increased by 8,400, bringing the total to 59,400.
- The programme runs until 31 May 2027, but the Main Sanitary Inspectorate has stopped accepting new supply requests.
Mandatory vaccination still without a date
The Health Ministry has not confirmed when an obligatory HPV vaccination rule would take effect, according to a report on the Polityka Zdrowotna portal (Szczepienie przeciw HPV może stać się obowiązkowe. Ministerstwo Zdrowia wciąż nie podało daty zmian - wiadomości Medycyna i Zdrowie – politykazdrowotna.com). The draft regulation that would add the vaccine to the mandatory schedule is still in public consultation. Parents of children and teenagers therefore still do not know which birth cohorts would be covered or when the rule would apply.
Free vaccines for young adults
A separate, time-limited programme offers free HPV vaccination to people aged 19 to 26. Demand has been higher than expected: the number of doses administered rose from about 200 a month to as many as 4,000 a day (Dodatkowe szczepionki przeciw HPV w Polsce – trybunapolska.pl). The programme began on 1 October and runs until 31 May 2027 (Szczepienia przeciw HPV. GIS ogłasza ostatnią pulę dawek – NewsMed.pl – newsmed.pl). Cervarix protects mainly against the high-risk HPV-16 and HPV-18 types.
The Main Sanitary Inspectorate has also announced that it is no longer accepting new requests for vaccine supplies under the programme. Tvn24 reported on the same extension and on which groups can receive free vaccination (Więcej dawek szczepionek przeciw HPV. Dla kogo szczepienie jest bezpłatne? - TVN24 – tvn24.pl).
What readers should know
Until the regulation is adopted and a date is published, HPV vaccination remains voluntary for most people. The additional allocation is the last one, and the inspectorate has closed intake of new supply requests. Young adults who want a free dose should not count on it being available through a new request; whether any doses remain for them can only be confirmed by their primary care clinic.
