Up to Tens of Thousands of Polish Doctors May Earn Over 1 Million Zloty a Year, Ministry Says
The Health Ministry says the number of doctors in Poland earning more than 1 million zloty a year may be dozens of times higher than official statistics showed. Full data is expected in January 2027.
Scale of the problem may be far larger than thought
The Ministry of Health has acknowledged that the scale of so-called pay pyramids in the public healthcare system may be several dozen times larger than official statistics had indicated (Nie setki, lecz tysiące. Resort o milionowych zarobkach lekarzy – TVN24). Deputy Health Minister Tomasz Maciejewski said the ministry had repeatedly raised the issue of pay pyramids.
New estimates
According to the ministry's new estimates, the number of doctors earning over 1 million zloty a year could reach several thousand, and possibly more than ten thousand (Nawet kilkanaście tysięcy lekarzy milionerów. Wiceminister podaje nowe szacunki – Rynek Zdrowia). An earlier report had suggested that one in ten doctors in Poland earns more than that amount (Co dziesiąty lekarz w Polsce zarabia ponad milion zł. Resort podał nowe dane – Rzeczpospolita). Officials said exact figures will only be available in January 2027.
Legislation in the Senate
A bill limiting doctors' earnings is currently being processed in the Senate. The upper house has backed amendments concerning working time and penalties for abuses related to pay.
