Russian strike hits Kyiv: five injured, Dnipro bridge damaged, power and water disrupted

Casualties and damage in the capital

Five people, including a 14-year-old child, were injured in the overnight attack on Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said (Rakiety spadły na Kijów. Pięć osób rannych, są problemy z prądem i wodą – Onet) (Nocne uderzenie Rosji na Kijów. "Niezwykle trudna sytuacja w mieście" – Polsat News). Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported that a two-storey building on the grounds of a kindergarten was destroyed by a missile strike, and several residential blocks were damaged. In one residential building part of the facade on the ground floor collapsed, and blast waves shattered windows in three other buildings, injuring one more person.

Bridge and energy infrastructure

Rosja uderzyła w Kijów – RMF24). Klitschko said the road surface, a trolleybus line and a power line were affected, and that road workers and utility crews were already on site. Power facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions were hit, creating what the mayor described as an extremely difficult situation for the capital's power supply. Blackout in Chernihiv

The city of Chernihiv, north of Kyiv, lost all electricity after the overnight strikes. The local city council said electric public transport had stopped because of the outage.

Alerts and sounds of explosions

Air raid alerts for ballistic missiles were in effect in Kyiv from midnight until 4 a.m. local time, which is 3 a.m. in Poland. Residents reported loud explosions.
