Trump says U.S. will end $4 billion annual military aid to Israel at end of 2026
President Donald Trump said he agreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end U.S. military assistance to Israel after this year. The aid has totaled about $4 billion a year.
Trump announces end of military aid
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he reached an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop American military financial assistance to Israel once 2026 ends (USA lõpetab Iisraelile nelja miljardi dollari suuruse abi andmise – ERR) (Interview mit Fox News - US-Präsident Trump: Keine Militärhilfe mehr an Israel – Deutschlandfunk). He made the announcement in an interview with Fox News (Trump ucina wsparcie dla Izraela. 4 miliardy dolarów rocznie zostaną w USA – Bankier.pl) (Od nového roku žádná vojenská pomoc pro Izrael, prohlásil Trump – iDNES.cz).
Scale of the funding
The assistance has amounted to $4 billion a year, and that money will now stay in the United States, Trump said (Pomoc wojskowa USA dla Izraela tylko do końca roku. Jest decyzja Trumpa – Rzeczpospolita). Reports describe the change as the end of the current military aid arrangement rather than a short pause (Trump says U.S. will stop $4B in military aid to Israel at end of 2026 – NBCNews.com) (USA končí s vojenskou pomocí Izraeli, oznámil Trump – Novinky.cz).
Timing and conditions
The cutoff takes effect at the end of the year, so payments continue until then (USA podle Trumpa na konci roku přestanou poskytovat vojenskou pomoc Izraeli – Seznam Zprávy). Trump added that Washington could resume financial support for Israel in the future if it chose to. He also said Israel no longer needs American backing, a claim Netanyahu's government has not been reported to dispute.
Context
The decision marks a clear shift in one of the longest-running parts of the US-Israel relationship, in which Washington has been the largest provider of military support to Israel. Details of how the funds will be redirected inside the United States have not yet been set out in the reports.
