Two dead, 17 injured as Ukrainian drone barrage hits Russia's Voronezh

Casualties and damage in Voronezh

Regional governor Alexander Gusev said two men, born in 1960 and 1973, were killed in the overnight attack on the regional capital (Ukrainian Drone Barrage Against Voronezh Kills At Least 2 – The Moscow Times). He warned the toll could rise during the day. Seventeen people were reported wounded, and the governor said most of them had been travelling aboard a passenger train (Ukrajina po ruských úderech hlásí zraněné. Air defence and fires

Gusev said air defence systems destroyed 113 drones over the region, with most intercepted directly above Voronezh. Falling debris ignited fires at several industrial and commercial sites, residential buildings and the sports hall of a school.

Target identified

The exiled outlet Astra, relying on eyewitness footage of black smoke over the city, said one of the targeted industrial sites was a synthetic rubber plant owned by the petrochemical company Sibur. The plant produces rubber and polymers used in military aircraft tyres, according to the same report.

Ukrainian and Russian claims

Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian drone strikes on Ukraine overnight injured at least six people, while Moscow said it had also faced drone attacks. Claims about the Voronezh strikes could not be independently verified.
