Poll findings

A national survey run by the Financial Times and research firm Focaldata found that about 69% of registered US voters are very or somewhat worried about corruption, self-enrichment and conflicts of interest in Donald Trump's administration Almost half of those who backed Trump in 2024 share that concern

The poll was conducted online from October 16 to 18 among 1,648 registered voters, with a margin of error of about 2.8 percentage points

Corruption as a second-term issue

About half of all registered voters say corruption has been a bigger problem during Trump's second term than under earlier administrations. The finding suggests the concern is not limited to Democrats.

Prices and the midterms

The survey links corruption concerns to rising costs. About 54% of respondents say the Trump administration or Republicans in Congress bear the most responsibility for higher prices. More than 40% say higher prices have made them more likely to vote for Democrats in the midterms.

Diesel in the US averages $6.32 a gallon, more than 70% above a year ago, amid a war against Iran that has lasted about eight months. Columbia Business School professor Jeremy Ney told FT that voters may tolerate hardship when everyone shares it, but not when it appears only some people are benefiting

White House response

White House spokesman Davis Ingle said Trump has launched a broad campaign against fraud across the federal government.
