Open burning and smoke were recorded on the industrial site, according to ASTRA's analysis of photographic material. Based on those images, the channel assessed that an ammonia unit, designated AM-70, was most likely the source of the fire.
Novomoskovsk Joint Stock Company Azot is part of the mineral and chemical holding EuroChem and is among the largest Russian producers of ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers. ASTRA also reported that two EuroChem plants, including Azot, have been affected in recent periods.
