Opole sacks coach after a run of poor results

Odra Opole has dismissed head coach Łukasz Tomczyk and his assistant Bartłomiej Babiarz. The club confirmed the decision on Sunday evening, shortly after 5 p.m. (W Rakowie miał zastąpić Papszuna. The final straw was a 1-0 home loss to Pogoń Siedlce, with a goal from Maciej Rosołek settling the match. The club said the board acted on the recommendation of sporting director Dariusz Sztylka, citing unsatisfactory form and results that made the season targets unreachable.

Short spell, poor return

Tomczyk took charge of Odra in the summer, after leaving Raków Częstochowa in May, a day after the Polish Cup final defeat to Górnik Zabrze. ([Pierwszoligowiec zwolnił trenera. In 13 matches with Odra, he won four, drew three and lost six. The season opened with a 1-0 defeat to Arka Gdynia, and the team did not recover its form in the following weeks.

League table pressure

Opole sits second from bottom in the Betclic 1 Liga. Piotr Plewnia, who had coached the club's second team this season, will lead the side from Tuesday. The next fixture is due Thursday.

The dismissal is the latest in a string of coaching changes in the second tier. (Kolejne zwolnienie w I lidze! Pracę stracił były szkoleniowiec Rakowa Częstochowa – mymistrzowie.pl)
