Rebuilt DW 988 between Czudec and Zaborów opens to traffic in Podkarpackie

In brief

• The rebuilding of voivodeship road 988 between Czudec and Zaborów in Podkarpackie, over 3 km long, has been completed.

Road reopens after roughly two and a half years of work

The works, which covered more than 3 kilometres of the route, started in April 2024. Local media reported that the project took about two and a half years to finish.

Scope of the works

Beyond resurfacing the carriageway, the project included rebuilding the railway overpass and several bridges, and reworking junctions with local roads. New pavements and bus bays were built, while lighting and drainage were upgraded. The officials involved said the changes should improve comfort and safety for drivers and pedestrians, and reduce noise from traffic.

Funding

The project was valued at PLN 61,398,698.00. Gmina Czudec provided PLN 120,000 for the construction of a pavement.

Local officials' view

Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, a member of the Podkarpackie voivodeship board, described the finished section as part of a wider programme to improve the road between Babica and Jasło. Deputy starosta of Strzyżów Zbigniew Korab said the new road would make travel safer and more comfortable for residents. Czudec commune mayor Andrzej Ślipski also spoke about the importance of the investment. Zaborów councillor Małgorzata Skalska-Nieroda said local residents had waited a long time for the project.

Blessing and opening

The newly completed section was blessed by Fr. Krzysztof Rusznica, parish priest of Matki Bożej Królowej Polski in Zaborów.
