Judge Korwin-Piotrowska asks police to remove protesters outside the Constitutional Tribunal
Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska has sent a letter to the National Police Headquarters asking for protesters to be removed from outside the Constitutional Tribunal's seat in Warsaw. Police say the demonstration is lawful and the request has not been acted on.
Judge's request to police
Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska has written to the National Police Headquarters, asking that protesters be cleared from the area in front of the Constitutional Tribunal building in Warsaw (Sędzia chce usunięcia manifestantów sprzed TK. Police response
According to the police, the demonstration is legal, so there are no grounds to disperse it. Podinspektor Andrzej Fijołek of the National Police Headquarters said that a gathering can only be dissolved by the city mayor, the president of Warsaw. Reports say the chief of police left the letter without consideration.
City hall's position
Warsaw city hall said it has no plans to take such action at present.
Context
The request comes on the same day the Constitutional Tribunal's General Assembly of Judges was scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., and for the first time it was to be broadcast live in full.
