Shooting on the Main Market Square

On Saturday afternoon, shortly after 3 p.m., a man fired from a car at random passers-by on the main market square in Kraków, according to police (Rozpoczęła się żałoba narodowa po strzelaninie w Krakowie – Onet). The attacker was detained, but several people, including police officers, were injured.

Mourning in the city and nationwide

Mayor Łukasz Gibała signed an order declaring mourning in the city until 11 November (Strzelanina w Krakowie. Prezydent Łukasz Gibała ogłasza żałobę w mieście – Onet). In a speech to residents, he said the crisis team was still working and that no injured person or family would be left alone (Łukasz Gibała po strzelaninie w Krakowie: Przemoc nie zmieni tego, jakim jesteśmy miastem – RMF24). He thanked the city guard, police, doctors, firefighters and rescuers, and asked people not to spread false information or footage from the scene.

President Karol Nawrocki has started the procedure for a national mourning period lasting two days, 8 and 9 November (Żałoba narodowa po tragedii w Krakowie.
