Morawiecki announces constructive no-confidence motion against Tusk government, names Marek Jurek as PM candidate
Rozwój Plus leader Mateusz Morawiecki said his group will file a constructive vote of no confidence against Donald Tusk's government and proposed former Sejm speaker Marek Jurek as a caretaker prime minister. The move comes amid a dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal.

In brief
- Rozwój Plus will file a constructive vote of no confidence against the Tusk government.
- The group proposes Marek Jurek, former Sejm speaker, as prime minister of a caretaker cabinet.
- The cabinet would be tasked with restoring calm and holding honest elections in 2027.
- The proposal is linked to a dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal.
Proposal for a caretaker government
Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Saturday that Rozwój Plus will submit a constructive motion of no confidence against the government led by Donald Tusk (Chcą odwołać Tuska. Morawiecki zaproponował kandydata na premiera. "Może uspokoić sytuację" – msn.com) (Morawiecki rzuca wyzwanie Tuskowi. Chce zmiany rządu i wskazuje następcę premiera – Rzeczpospolita). Speaking at a press conference outside the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, he said the motion would require a successor candidate, and his group proposed Marek Jurek for the post (Morawiecki zapowiada wotum nieufności dla rządu. Wskazał kandydata na premiera – Wirtualna Polska).
Goal of the new cabinet
According to Morawiecki, a new prime minister would have one main task: calming the situation and organising honest elections in 2027, as early as possible and no later than the constitutional deadline (Morawiecki proponuje zmianę premiera. Wskazał kandydata – RMF24). He described Jurek as a figure widely seen as conciliatory, one who could win support from broad political groups and help reach a compromise.
Constitutional reset
Morawiecki said Rozwój Plus still considers a constitutional reset the best solution, but argued the current government would not accept it, which is why a change of cabinet is needed. He added that after the elections the Tribunal should be selected anew. He also warned that the situation around the Tribunal could lead to a much wider crisis (Zapowiadają konstruktywne wotum nieufności. Jest kandydat na premiera – Interia Wydarzenia).
Reaction and context
In a post on X, Morawiecki wrote that the group was filing the motion and that its proposal was a technical government under Jurek until elections that would produce a new parliamentary majority (Wotum nieufności wobec rządu Tuska. Morawiecki: składamy wniosek – Onet). He said a reset of the Tribunal was supported by several political groups, but that it could not involve those he described as responsible for the current conflict over the court.
