Poland Lowers Maximum Fuel Prices for Weekend of October 17–19
The Ministry of Energy has reduced maximum retail prices for the weekend of October 17–19, lowering limits on gasoline and diesel to ease costs during a period of high travel demand.
Reduced limits for all types of fuel
The Ministry of Energy has set binding retail price limits for the period of October 17–19, 2026, establishing the maximum price for 95-octane gasoline at 6.89 PLN per liter, 98-octane at 7.68 PLN, and diesel at 8.00 PLN, according to an official announcement published in the Monitor Polski and reported by Interia Biznes (Maksymalne ceny paliw na weekend i poniedziałek. Tyle zapłacą kierowcy). The new limits represent decreases of six groszy for standard gasoline, eight groszy for premium, and three groszy for diesel compared to the limits in effect on October 16, as reported by Auto Świat (Sprawdź, ile będzie cię kosztowało tankowanie auta w weekend. Mam dobre wieści).
For drivers filling 50-liter tanks, the weekend reductions translate into savings of three zlotys on 95-octane gasoline, four zlotys on 98-octane, and 1.50 PLN on diesel compared to prices from Friday, calculated INNPoland.pl (Znamy ceny paliw na weekend. Tyle zapłacimy za benzynę i olej napędowy).
Third phase of the price intervention program
The weekend limits are part of the third round of the "Lower Fuel Prices" program, which has an estimated budget of five billion zlotys, noted Interia Biznes (Maksymalne ceny paliw na weekend i poniedziałek. Tyle zapłacą kierowcy). The funding comes from a 60-percent levy on the extraordinary profits that fuel companies have made over the twelve months starting from March 2026, as reported by Bankier.pl (Tankowanie tańsze niż w piątek. Tyle zapłacimy za paliwa w weekend).
Poland introduced rotational fuel price controls in 2026 in response to unstable global energy markets. The government presents the tax on extraordinary profits and the price limit mechanism as tools aimed at protecting consumers from sharp cost fluctuations while redirecting industry profits to public purposes.
Enforcement measures and compliance
Retail stations charging above the published limits may face fines of up to one million zlotys, as reported by Forsal (Ceny maksymalne paliw od piątku do poniedziałku 17-19.10.2026. Benzyna i diesel potanieją). The mandatory prices apply to all fuel retailers across the country during the three-day period.
The limits for the period of October 17–19 follow a reduction that took effect on October 16, when the limits dropped to 6.95 PLN for 95-octane gasoline, 7.76 PLN for 98-octane, and 8.03 PLN for diesel—reductions of six groszy, seven groszy, and two groszy respectively compared to the previous day, as reported by Defence24 (W piątek niższe maksymalne ceny paliw. Minister energii ogłosił nowe stawki). The sequential reductions reflect the government's strategy of adjusting price limits in response to market conditions while maintaining intervention during periods of increased consumer demand.
