Russia strikes energy facilities in Kyiv region; one man dies in Brovary district

Damage across five districts

Overnight, Russian forces carried out a large raid on the Kyiv region with ballistic missiles and strike drones, according to the head of the regional military administration, Tymur Tkachenko (Rusia golpea con fuerza el sistema energético de Ucrania en vísperas de una nueva ronda de negociaciones de paz – EL PAÍS) (Massive Russian attack: Energy facilities damaged in two districts of Kyiv region – Ukrinform). Moscow said it had hit targets in and around Kyiv during the attack (Russia says it hit targets in and around Kyiv in massive overnight strike – Investing.com).

Tkachenko reported damage in five districts of the region. In the Bucha district, an energy facility was struck, and civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were also hit. Spanish daily El País reported that the wider assault included 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles, with Kyiv region neighbourhoods and a northern bridge over the Dnipro among the targets.

Casualties

A man injured in an earlier attack in the Brovary district later died in hospital. El País reported at least one death and eight injured in the overnight attack more broadly.

Power outages

Part of the Brovary district lost electricity after a Russian strike on an energy facility operated by DTEK, the company said. It described the damage as extensive, said repairs would take time, and warned that frequent air raid alerts were hampering crews. Electricity cuts in parts of the Kyiv region have in recent days lasted up to 17 hours in some sectors, according to El País.

In neighbouring Zhytomyr region, a large-scale outage followed a Russian attack on regional energy infrastructure.

Wider attack on Ukraine

Ukraine's air defence said it shot down four missiles and 149 drones launched by Russia across the country from the evening of November 6 (Air defense downs four missiles, 149 drones used by Russia to attack Ukraine overnight – Ukrinform).

What remains unclear

The full number of damaged facilities and the number of customers left without power in the affected districts have not been published. Russia's claims about its targets have not been independently confirmed.
