Russian missile strike on Kyiv injures several people and damages a kindergarten in Solomianskyi district

Kindergarten Delfin badly damaged

The kindergarten Delfin in the Solomianskyi district was hit during the overnight attack, according to reports from the city administration and local media (Дуже хочеться, щоб діти швидше сюди повернулися: директорка дитсадка "Дельфін" у Києві, який постраждав від ракетного удару – Espreso) (Ракета попала в детскую площадку: в Киеве в результате ночного российского удара разрушен детский сад — видео – NV). Reports differ on how much of the building was lost: one outlet said the two-storey structure was destroyed, while the acting head of the facility described the sports hall, English classroom, toddler group and swimming pool as the worst affected, with windows blown out in the rooms for older children.

The facility's acting director said the staff had been preparing for International Children's Day when the strike came, and that the kindergarten had been receiving children up to the attack. Children will be moved temporarily to other kindergartens in the district, which have offered their premises, and the kindergarten plans to resume operations. She said the funding for repairs is not yet settled, since the kindergarten does not manage its own budget and will turn to the state.

Injuries and damage to residential buildings

The State Emergency Service reported three people injured, including a child, with one person hurt by the blast wave from strikes on five-storey apartment blocks (Атака на Київ: серед трьох постраждалих є дитина (фото) – TSN). Kyiv city authorities reported two casualties and said they were receiving medical care (Атака на Київ: двоє постраждалих, пошкоджений дитсадок – TSN) (Російський удар по Києву: є постраждалі, пошкоджений дитячий садок – Українська правда). The figures differ between agencies, which may reflect updates during the night.

In the same district, a missile struck near a residential block and left a large crater («У підвалі сипалася штукатурка, підлога тремтіла під ногами»: наслідки російської атаки у Солом'янському районі Києва – Suspilne). A five-storey building was damaged, with the front of its ground floor partly collapsed, and a resident said the blast shook the whole building and blew out balcony doors. Water and gas were cut off in the building (У Києві після атаки РФ вирву біля п’ятиповерхівки затопило окропом: що розповіли мешканка – TSN). Emergency officials said no one died in that building.

Air alert and ongoing threat

Kyiv officials declared a red alert and urged residents to move to the nearest shelters as ballistic missiles were detected heading toward the capital (Росіяни знову атакують Київ – Українська правда). Authorities said the attack followed earlier ballistic strikes on the city that had already damaged a residential building.
