Trzcianka: six loans in a few days, money goes to fraudsters, 20-year-old owes over 830,000 zloty
A 20-year-old from Trzcianka took out six loans in a few days after being persuaded by people posing as bank staff and police, and now faces more than 830,000 zloty in debt.
Victim persuaded to take loans to protect his savings
The 20-year-old was told that a loan had already been taken out in his name by fraudsters and that he needed to take out loans himself to shield his funds. Acting on instructions from people who presented themselves as bank employees and police officers, he borrowed 563,000 zloty and transferred the cash to fraudsters (20-latek z Trzcianki zaciągnął kredyty na 563 tys. zł. Six credits and a debt above 830,000 zloty
In total, the young man took out six loans within a few days. The amount he now has to repay is above 830,000 zloty, according to reports on the case (20-latek ma do spłaty 830 tys. Uwierzył fałszywym policjantom i bankowcom – Fakt).
Money sent to crypto ATMs
The cash was paid into so-called bitcoin ATMs, including machines in Bydgoszcz, according to local public broadcaster reporting. Such machines allow cash to be converted into cryptocurrency and sent to wallets controlled by the perpetrators.
Scale of the fraud
The case is an example of a scheme in which victims are pressured by phone to hand over cash or take out credit under the pretext of protecting their money. The 20-year-old's situation shows how quickly a series of loans can grow into a debt many times larger than an average annual income in Poland.
