US intelligence sharing with Congress and agencies slowed during Trump's second term, Reuters reports
Sharing of US intelligence on Iran and other global threats among spy agencies, Congress and federal bodies has slowed and at times stopped entirely during Donald Trump's second presidential term. Officials warn the leadership may be working with an incomplete picture of threats.

In brief
- Reuters reports that US intelligence sharing with Congress and federal agencies on Iran and other threats slowed, and at times stopped, during Trump's second term.
- The CIA has stopped jointly preparing assessments with the National Intelligence Council, and none of the council's new reports has covered the war in Iran.
- Lawmakers briefly stopped receiving intelligence reports after the June 2025 strikes on Iran and the January 2026 capture of Maduro.
Coordination breakdowns across the intelligence community
Eight current and former US officials and other informed sources told Reuters that the flow of intelligence on Iran and other worldwide dangers to Congress and federal agencies has slowed. In some cases it has been suspended for short periods Officials and outside experts say the gaps risk leaving the country's top leaders with a partial view of the threats they face, a situation they compare to the intelligence failures before the al-Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001.
The CIA and the National Intelligence Council
The CIA has stopped jointly preparing analytical assessments with the National Intelligence Council, which sits within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The council has for decades pulled together the views of the country's 18 intelligence agencies for senior policymakers (Konflikt CIA z innymi służbami. Eksperci zaniepokojeni problemami wywiadu USA za Trumpa – Rzeczpospolita). Analytical work at the council slowed after what sources described as CIA resistance and a wave of staff cuts. Five officials confirmed that none of the council's new reports has focused on the war in Iran.
Lawmakers left without reports
Lawmakers and their staff also at times stopped receiving intelligence reports for brief periods: in the days after the US military intervention in Iran in June 2025, and again after the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in January 2026.
Background: staff cuts
The problems began last year against a backdrop of large reductions in national security bodies, including the ODNI and the CIA, as Trump moved to dismiss or sideline officials whose work he disliked (ЗМІ: за другого терміну Трампа обмін розвідданими між спецслужбами та Конгресом сповільнився – Європейська правда). Reuters' sources said the disruption has affected how information moves between agencies and the White House.
