Warsaw to add six new speed cameras this year, plus average-speed checks on Poniatowski Bridge and Wisłostrada tunnel
Warsaw's road authority has signed contracts for six new fixed speed cameras and a section speed control on Poniatowski Bridge, with installation planned before the end of the year. A second section control is planned for the Wisłostrada tunnel.

In brief
- Warsaw's road authority has signed agreements for six new fixed speed camera locations, with installation planned this year.
- A section speed control system will replace the fixed cameras on Poniatowski Bridge and is expected to start in mid-next year.
- A second section speed control is planned in both tubes of the Wisłostrada tunnel, where the limit is 50 km/h.
New camera locations
The Warsaw Road Authority (ZDM) has signed agreements for six new speed camera locations in the capital. The devices are to appear on Aleja Wilanowska, Aleja Solidarności, Aleja Niepodległości, Aleja Armii Ludowej, Wóycickiego Street and at the eastern approach to Gdański Bridge. Installation is planned for this year (Koniec z unikaniem mandatów na OPP. Nowe kamery wychwycą także tych kierowców – Moto.pl) (Kamery w nowym OPP wychwycą cwanych kierowców. Average-speed control on Poniatowski Bridge
The fixed cameras currently on Poniatowski Bridge and Karowa Street will be moved to other sites to make way for a section speed control system on the bridge. ZDM spokesperson Maciej Dziubiński said the two projects are directly linked. The system is expected to start operating in mid-next year (Odcinkowy pomiar prędkości i nowe fotoradary w Warszawie. Drogowcy wytypowali kluczowe miejsca - Warszawa Radio ESKA – eska.pl). Unlike a single fixed camera, it measures the average speed of a vehicle between two points and is designed to also monitor entries to and exits from the bridge (W siedmiu miejscach w Warszawie rusza nowa kontrola kierowców, a z popularnego mostu znikną stare fotoradary - Warszawa, Super Express – se.pl). ZDM says this would be the first solution of its kind in Poland.
Wisłostrada tunnel
A second section speed control is planned in both tubes of the Wisłostrada tunnel, where the speed limit is 50 km/h. Media reports cite a recorded passage at 174 km/h in the tunnel as one reason for the change (Tego jeszcze w Polsce nie było. Nowy pomiar prędkości w Warszawie – zero.pl).
Summary of planned changes
- Six new fixed camera locations in Warsaw, with installation this year
- Section speed control on Poniatowski Bridge, expected in mid-next year
- Section speed control in both tubes of the Wisłostrada tunnel
The relocated cameras from the bridge and Karowa Street will be moved to the new sites.
