Concreting of the load-bearing structure completed

The contractor has finished concreting the load-bearing structure of viaduct ES-26 for the carriageway towards Barwinek (Wysoka jak wieża Kościoła Mariackiego. Structure in difficult terrain

The structure is being built on a hilly section between Żarnowa and Godowa ([80 metrów nad ziemią! Najwyższa estakada w Polsce już na półmetku! Because of large differences in ground height, the cantilever concreting method was used, in which segments are raised symmetrically on both sides of the piers without traditional scaffolding. The longest span is 188 metres.

• Steel used: 9,250 tonnes

According to GDDKiA, the amount of steel used for the construction equals the mass of the Eiffel Tower (У Польщі будують дорогу "у хмарах": автомобілі їхатимуть на висоті 80 метрів – UNIAN). For comparison, according to Money.pl, the viaduct itself is about as high as the tower of St. Mary's Church in Kraków (80 metrów nad ziemią. Budują najwyższą estakadę w Polsce – Money.pl).

Expected opening

According to the current contract, traffic on the entire 11.8 km Babica–Jawornik section is to open at the end of next year, one year later than originally planned. Five overpasses and eight viaducts are being built on this section.
