- Opposition parties are holding a large rally in New Delhi demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner.
- The protest targets a nationwide revision of voter rolls, which opponents say removed around 130 million names and could benefit Modi's party.

Opposition demands resignation of election chief
The main opposition Congress party has called the march, dubbed 'Chalo Dilli', which starts from the Connaught Place Minto Road junction in central Delhi and ends at Ramlila Maidan. The protest is aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom the opposition wants to step down. (India news: Opposition holds major rally in Delhi over voter roll revisions – DW)

What the protest is about
The grievance centres on the Special Intensive Revision, a nationwide exercise to update electoral rolls. Election authorities say it strikes from the lists the names of people who have died or no longer live at their registered addresses. Opposition parties claim the revision could help the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports, the revision has removed around 130 million names from draft voter rolls across India.
Size of the expected crowd
Organisers say hundreds of thousands of people will take part. Congress has also claimed a million people could attend, while the BBC reports that tens of thousands are expected to gather at the grounds from around noon.
