Two MiG-29 jets to go to Ukraine
Poland plans to give Ukraine two MiG-29 fighter jets soon. Deputy head of the Ministry of National Defence Department of Strategy and Defence Planning, General Dariusz Łukowski, confirmed the transfer to Rzeczpospolita, saying the handover would happen "in the near future" (Ukraina dostanie kolejne polskie myśliwce. Jest decyzja – Onet) (Polskie MiGi-29 trafią na Ukrainę – Rzeczpospolita). The paper reported that one of the aircraft has already reached the end of its service life, while the other is still flying (Polska odda Ukrainie samoloty MiG-29. To część wsparcia o wartości 50 mln euro – Dziennik.pl) (Klamka zapadła. Polska odda Ukrainie MiG-29 – Wirtualna Polska).
Part of a wider package
The jets are included in another Polish donation to Ukraine, valued at around €50 million (MON potwierdza. Polska znów pomoże Ukrainie. Padła konkretna liczba – fakt.pl). Ukrainian defence officials said in September that the package would reach that value and include air defence equipment. Beyond the fighters, the package is reported to contain 155 mm and 152 mm artillery shells and 20×102 mm rounds for the six-barrelled cannon of F-16 aircraft (Kolejne MiG-29 z Polski dla Ukrainy. MON potwierdza doniesienia – RMF24) (У Міноборони Польщі підтвердили передачу Україні двох МіГ-29 найближчим часом – Українська правда). The Perun portable air-defence missiles are also mentioned in Ukrainian reporting.
Limited details released
The ministry said it is preparing support that includes equipment being withdrawn from Polish armed forces because its service life is ending. Officials have not disclosed the full contents or timing of the package. Poland has supplied Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion, including earlier MiG-29s, T-72 and PT-91 tanks, Leopard 2A4 tanks and armoured transporters.
The ministry added that the limit of aid is set by the security of the Polish state and the resources of its armed forces.
