In brief
- Chernihiv was fully cut off from electricity early on 7 November after a Russian drone attack.
- Electric public transport in the city has been suspended because of the outage.
- Russian strikes also hit energy facilities in Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions and damaged parts of Kyiv.
Full blackout in the regional centre
The Chernihiv city council said the city had been completely cut off from power early on Saturday, 7 November (Чернигов полностью обесточен, движение общественного электротранспорта в городе остановлено – NV). The municipal press service described the energy situation as difficult and said electric public transport had been suspended because of the outage (Великий обласний центр накрив блекаут: що відбувається у місті – TSN).
Drone attacks and strikes on energy facilities
Air force reports earlier on the evening of 6 November and in the morning of 7 November warned of groups of jet-powered drones heading toward Chernihiv. Overnight, Russian forces also struck energy facilities in Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, which left the capital with a difficult power supply situation.
Wider attack on Kyiv
In the same period, Russian forces fired a ballistic missile at Kyiv. Residential buildings and the Northern Bridge were damaged, a kindergarten was destroyed, and five people were injured.
Transport and services
With power off, the trams and trolleybuses that run on electricity are not operating in Chernihiv, leaving residents without this form of public transport. No restoration timeline has been announced in the reports available so far.
