The African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) describes the current Ebola epidemic as the fastest-growing one on record. The outbreak exceeds the 2018–2020 epidemic that affected the country in both scale and number of deaths.

Ebola is a highly contagious illness transmitted through contact with bodily fluids. It causes symptoms including high fever, diarrhea and bleeding. In October, infections were documented in Kenya, resulting in two reported deaths. Nigeria has also registered its first confirmed case of the virus.
