Dismissal of news editor
Before resigning, Grcic dismissed Bojana Mladjenovic as editor-in-chief of the news programme and proposed Borivoje Uskokovic as her replacement.
Staff and political pressure
The resignation came after demands from RTS's trade union and informal staff groups, as well as from the Student List itself. Grcic said in her statement that her continued presence, even on a temporary basis, was seen by part of society as an obstacle to change. She said she wanted to avoid further mistrust, tension or division and therefore chose to step down without delay, leaving it to the competent authorities to ensure continuity of leadership under the law.
Context of the vote
Former president Aleksandar Vucic, who led the Serbia United list, conceded defeat on the evening of October 25. Public broadcasting has been a long-running point of contention in Serbia, and the leadership change at RTS is likely to be watched as a test of how the new political landscape affects state media.
