Request at the Brochów hospital
A woman in her 36th week of pregnancy applied for a termination at the Antoni Falkiewicz Specialist Hospital in Wrocław's Brochów district on 14 October. She based her request on a certificate from a psychiatrist (Wrocław: Nie doszło do aborcji w 36. tygodniu ciąży. Dramatyczna relacja – dorzeczy.pl) (Szok we Wrocławiu! Chcieli abortować dziecko w 9. miesiącu ciąży? – wpolityce.pl). The hospital says it proposed a medical procedure that would end the pregnancy, and the patient did not agree to it. No abortion took place. Police came to the ward that day (Dziecko z Wrocławia nie podzieli losu Felka! Późna aborcja na Brochowie odwołana – org.pl).
Disputed account of the proposal
Gynecologist Gizela Jagielska, who works at the hospital, spoke on the radio about why the abortion did not take place. Some media reported that a condition had been found in the fetus that would prevent long life after birth. No reliable official confirmation has been published.
Anti-abortion groups and the prosecutor's notice
Krzysztof Kasprzak of the board of Fundacja Życie i Rodzina said he verified the information and made it public on social media. The group then worked urgently to prevent the termination (Nie doszło do aborcji w 36. tygodniu ciąży – kosciol.wiara.pl). Kaja Godek filed a notice with prosecutors over the case (Aborcja w szpitalu „zleceniem zabójstwa”. Kaja Godek składa zawiadomienie do prokuratury. Jej fundacja terroryzuje pacjentki? | Gazeta Wrocławska – gazetawroclawska.pl).
Katarzyna Kotula, the government's plenipotentiary for equality, also filed a notice with prosecutors. She asked them to check whether sensitive data about the patient reached Godek's foundation from the hospital (Odmowa aborcji i podejrzenie wycieku danych. Sprawa trafiła do prokuratury – Bankier.pl). A separate report described another leak of information about the patient (Kolejny wyciek informacji o pacjentce potrzebującej aborcji we wrocławskim szpitalu na Brochowie – wroclaw.wyborcza.pl).
Prosecutor's review
The prosecutor's office will assess the notices concerning the possible leak of patient data. No charges have been reported so far.
