Notary fees rise from November 5 as Justice Ministry raises the notarial tariff for the first time in 22 years
New maximum notarial fees take effect on November 5, 2026. It is the first revision of the tariff since 2004, which the ministry says no longer reflects the costs of running a notary's office.

In brief
- From November 5, 2026, higher maximum notarial fees apply in Poland.
- The ministry amended the notarial tariff for the first time since 2004.
- Officials cite more than 100 percent cumulative inflation and rising costs of running a notary's office.
- Some sources say will-drafting costs could rise about fourfold, with some ceilings up to 400 percent.
Higher maximum rates from November 5
From November 5, 2026, the new ceilings on notarial fees apply after the Minister of Justice amended the regulation on the notarial tariff (Wzrost opłat u notariusza od 5 listopada. Ministerstwo Sprawiedliwości podnosi taksę pierwszy raz od 20 lat – Dziennik.pl) (Taksa notarialna w górę od 5 listopada. Koniec cennika sprzed 22 lat – wp.pl). The change does not raise the fees themselves: it lifts the maximum amounts a notary may charge, while the actual price depends on the value of the transaction and the type of act. The changes cover a broad range of services, from simple documents to more complex legal procedures.
Why the ministry acted
The ministry says the rates had not been revised since 2004 and had become out of step with the economic situation. Cumulative inflation over the past two decades has exceeded 100 percent, the minimum wage has risen several times over, and running a notary's office has become considerably more expensive. Officials argued that the ceilings needed to be adjusted to match actual costs of the profession (Duże podwyżki u notariuszy od 5 listopada. Za testament zapłacimy cztery razy więcej – portalsamorzadowy.pl).
What changes for consumers
The increase applies to common services such as wills and powers of attorney, as well as property transactions. Some sources report that the cost of drawing up a will could rise about fourfold, while the upper range of certain fees could grow by as much as 400 percent. The new maximum rates apply only to the ceiling set by the regulation; the actual amount charged depends on the value of the transaction and the type of act.
What comes next
The revised tariff applies to notarial acts performed from November 5 onward. Clients who book acts before that date are not affected by the new ceilings, as the regulation takes effect on the set day.
