Traffic changes start on 4 November

Traffic reorganisation on the whole 92 km stretch between Strykowo and Warsaw begins on Monday, 4 November (Kamera na kamerze. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways is due to hand the site to the contractors on the same day, and heavy machinery is expected on the road later in November.

Four contracts and a total cost of 1,3 mld zł

A Warsaw district court upheld the earlier tender decision, which allowed the authorities to sign the fourth and final contract (Rozbudowa autostrady A2 między Łodzią i Warszawą o dodatkowe pasy - Architektura-Murator – muratorplus.pl). Budimex will build the Łódź Północ–Łowicz section, about 28 km long, under a contract worth 453 mln zł (Poszerzenie A2 Łódź - Warszawa z kompletem umów – Ministerstwo Infrastruktury) (Jedna z najbardziej skomplikowanych inwestycji drogowych w Polsce z kompletem umów. Państwo wyda ponad 1 mld zł – WNP.pl). Strabag holds the remaining three sections between Łowicz and Konotopa. The total cost of widening the road by more than 90 km is about 1,3 mld zł.

Lanes and completion dates

Between Strykowo and Grodzisk Mazowiecki the motorway will get three lanes in each direction, while from Pruszków to Warsaw each carriageway will have four. Widening covers 89 of the 92 km. The remaining 3 km around the Łódź Północ junction will get a new surface after 15 years of use.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Łowicz–regional border and Grodzisk Mazowiecki–Konotopa sections should be finished by the end of 2027. The section from the border to Grodzisk is due in January 2028, and the stretch nearest Łódź in April 2028. Works on the main carriageway start in November 2026. Nearby junctions at Wiskitki, Opacz, Warszawa Zachód, Mszczonów and two intersections on the Sochaczew bypass are being upgraded to carry traffic during the works. The motorway carries up to 100 000 vehicles a day.
