Arrests and charges
Agents of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) have detained six people suspected of belonging to an organised group working against the Republic of Poland. Among them are five Poles aged 25 to 52 and a 37-year-old Russian woman, according to Tomasz Siemoniak, minister coordinating the special services (ABW zatrzymała sześć osób. Polacy i Rosjanka podejrzani o szpiegostwo – Rzeczpospolita) (Działali przeciw Polsce. ABW zatrzymała pięciu Polaków i Rosjankę – Dziennik.pl).
Siemoniak said on X that a court had remanded four of the detainees on espionage charges, while the other two were released under non-custodial preventive measures (ABW zatrzymała sześć osób. Miały działać dla rosyjskiego wywiadu – RMF24).
What the investigation found
Siemoniak said the evidence gathered so far indicates the group acted on behalf of Russian special services and took part in activities supporting Russia's military potential.
According to the investigation, the group allegedly sent large quantities of materials with military applications to Russia without authorisation. These were reportedly used to make ammunition and weapons systems (Rosjanka i pięciu Polaków dostarczali Rosji komponenty do produkcji broni. ABW rozbiła siatkę szpiegów – Onet).
The suspects are also said to have bought components for weapons production and resold them illegally to Russian buyers. Prosecutors are expected to treat the case as illegal trade in goods and technologies of strategic importance for Poland's defence, in addition to espionage.
Searches and the operation
ABW officers, working from its regional branch in Olsztyn, carried out the operation between 21 October and 2 November. They searched 21 locations in the Warmian-Masurian, Pomeranian and Greater Poland voivodeships.
Reaction
ABW spokesman Jacek Dobrzyński confirmed the detentions on social media. He said the suspects were part of an organised criminal group acting on the orders of Russian special services against the Republic of Poland. He added that more information would follow (Działali na rzecz Rosji. ABW uderzyła w siatkę szpiegowską – Wirtualna Polska).
Wider context
The case adds to a series of recent arrests in Poland linked to suspected Russian intelligence activity. Czech media also reported the detentions (Polsko zadrželo šest lidí podezřelých z aktivit ve prospěch ruských tajných služeb – ČT24).
